Easy-To-Open Technology Percy ™ percing device

Percy™ usage

Q: Who is Percy™ for?

A: The Fermentis Percy™ piercing tool is designed for craft breweries and brewers using our 500g and 2.5kg packs.

Q: What beer yeast can Percy™ be used with?

A: The Percy™ tool is compatible with 500g and 2.5kg Fermentis beer yeast packs produced at the Algist Bruggeman factory in Belgium. Compatible yeast strains are easily identifiable by the grey Easy-To-Open Target Disc on the side of the pack.

Q: How do I pitch yeast with Percy™?

A: The Percy™ tool has a hollow tip and handle. Before each use, the tool must be cleaned, disinfected and dried following our instructions manual. Once brewers have removed the seal covering the adhesive Easy-To-Open Target Disc on our 500g and 2.5kg yeast packs, they can then puncture the sterile area with the piercing tool.

The tip of the tool is designed to easily pierce our vacuum-sealed foil packs and adhere to the sticky area of the Target Disc. When the yeast pack and tool are then inverted, the Percy™ tool allows the yeast to flow steadily through the handle and into the fermentation vessel.

Always check the surface of the tool before each use. Replace if signs of wear (cracks, scratches, or rough internal surface).

Consult our instruction manual or tutorial video for a step-by-step guide.

Q: How do I clean and disinfect the Percy™ tool?

A: Percy™ can be rinsed with warm water or cleaned in a dishwasher. To disinfect the tool, we recommend a disinfection bath or using a 70% isopropanol solution. Alternatively, use your brewery’s specific cleaning and sterilization procedures for tools and equipment.

Ensure the piercing tool is completely dry before use.

Consult our instruction manual for full cleaning instructions.

Q: Where and how should Percy™ be stored?

A: Follow your brewery’s specific storing procedures for tools and equipment.

To prevent premature wear, store the Percy™ tool away from sunlight.

Q: The seal on the Easy-To-Open Target Disc is stuck. What do I do?

A: If the seal of the Easy-To-Open Target Disc is stuck, we recommend using the tip of the Percy™ tool to help detach the tab.

Consult our tutorial video for a step-by-step guide.

Q: Can I open the new Fermentis Easy-To-Open packaging without Percy™?

A: Yes. Brewers do not need the Percy™ tool to open Fermentis beer yeast packs with an Easy-To-Open Target Disc. These packs can be opened using regular methods, such as scissors.
