Earlier this month, Fermentis joined the finest beer experts from around the globe to evaluate and celebrate the world’s best brews at the Brussels Beer Challenge. This year’s edition was held at Saint Peter’s Abbey in Ghent, Belgium, from 5-7 November.
A proud sponsor of the event, Fermentis also contributed four experts to the panel of jurors: Gabriela Montandon, Philippe Janssens, Enguerrand Abt and Thomas Preston. Representatives from Fermentis R&D, sales and marketing departments, the team provided their expertise to assess 1705 beers from 39 countries.
The annual competition is an ideal opportunity for breweries to showcase their craftsmanship and creativity. After a rigorous selection process, each entry is categorized by origin, typology and style. The panel of experts then tastes and evaluates each beer in a blind format to ensure complete impartiality.
While traditional European styles, in particular Belgian beers, remained the most numerous and popular entries, this year’s event also showcased the growing cultural diversity of the beer world, with countries such as Lebanon, India, Moldova and Vietnam joining the competition. There was also a clear increase in the number of non-alcoholic and low-alcohol beers, as well as fruit beers, reflecting global trends.
Congratulations to all the medallists and participants at this year’s event.
We are looking forward to another successful edition in 2025!
